1.Run Discord as administrator
If you need to update the Discord app to fix some issues. It can be very frustrating if you end up in a Discord update failed loop. But don’t worry, here is a working fix for this issue. Here is how:
- Run Discord app as administrator (right-click on Discord app and click on “Run as administrator”)
- A popup window will show up, asking if you want to make changes to your device. Click on the “Yes” button to continue
- Your Discord app should update right after that
If not, you will have to uninstall your Discord application.
2.Turn off Antivirus protection
If you are using any kind of antivirus, try to turn it off. If you are running Windows 8 or 10, you could try turning off Windows defender as well, which can lead to Discord not updating properly.
Here is how you can disable Windows defender:
- Use windows search and type in: “settings”
- Click on the “Settings” App
- Click on “Update & Security” Button
- Click on “Windows Security”
- Click on “Virus & Threat Protection” from the left menu.
- Click on “Manage Settings” as on is on the screenshot.
- If your settings differ from the screenshot below, you will have to disable the real-time protection of Windows Defender.
- A popup window will appear. Click on “Yes” to save your settings.
- Launch Discord again, and it should update itself finally.
3.Fresh Discord install
This is the last resource method, but if all of the tips above have failed. You have to do this in order to have the latest version of this app.
- Use windows search and type in “Uninstall.”
- Click on “Add or remove the program.”
- Scroll down till you find the Discord app and uninstall it
- Click here and download the latest version of Discord depending on your device(Mac, iOS, Windows, Linux, Android)
- Install the new version
Congratulations, you are now running on the latest version of the app.
4.How to fix Discord Mac update failed
- Close Discord app by ⌘+Q
- Double-check if all Discord process has been closed
- Delete ~/Library/Application Support/Discord and also this folder /Library/Application Support/Discord (drag them to trash)
- Click here and download the latest version for Mac
